The Opportunity

Join the Economics and Capital Markets Team (ECM) and play a key role in shaping global investment strategies. As a key member of ECM, you’ll influence decisions that drive our investment objectives, collaborating closely with stakeholders at every level, from the Board, the Investment Committee to sector teams.

ECM has three pillars:

  1. Strategic Themes – the long-term drivers of economic and financial market outcomes;
  2. Cyclical Macro – understanding cyclical fluctuations in the global and regional economies and policy responses; and
  3. Capital Markets – understanding what is priced into various asset markets and the implications for portfolio positioning.

In this role, you’ll spearhead the Cyclical Macro pillar, shaping views on current macroeconomic conditions and influencing portfolio construction decisions.  While your focus lies on leadership of the Cyclical Macro pillar, the collaborative nature at Future Fund will provide significant opportunities to contribute across the ECM pillars and the broader Investment Team.

Key Responsibilities

As the Director, Developed Market Macro, you’ll:

  • Identify key uncertainties and short-term scenarios in the major market economies, including Australia and the US.
  • Shape portfolio strategies with macro insights, optimising asset allocation decisions.
  • Develop and enhance macro forecasting frameworks and capital market models.
  • Contribute to the development of the Future Fund’s New Investment Order framework, guiding our economic and market outlook.
  • Deliver compelling macro and market outlook presentations to key stakeholders including the Chair, Board and Investment Committee.
  • Cultivate strategic relationships with external research providers, central banks and policymakers.
  • Collaborate with sector teams and incorporate their insights into ECM’s views on the external investment environment.
  • Mentor and nurture junior team members, fostering growth and development across the Agency.
