Duties/Abilities

We are looking for a skilled public policy economist to undertake, procure and present economic analysis that shapes strategic transport policy.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads' is seeking a Principal Economist to join the Economic Research and Analysis team and contribute to the development of a single integrated transport system accessible to everyone. In this role, you will undertake economic analysis and provide strategic advice to support the improvement of the transport system in Queensland.

This role reports to the Manager, Economic Research and Analysis and has no direct reports.

In addition, much of the team's analysis and modelling is undertaken in Python and there will be opportunities for you to learn and apply Python in the role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Developing strategic transport policy and providing high-level advice to executive management
• Undertaking research and contributing to the development of robust transport project evaluation techniques and guidelines
• Leading the development of quantitative models and providing advice and support on economic analysis
• Building relationships with stakeholders across government, industry, and academia
• Representing TMR on organisational and local, state, and national transport issues and policies
• Preparing well-researched reports and policy documents for senior and executive management
• Participating in performance conversations to build a culture of performance improvement
