About Treasury

The Department of Treasury WA supports the government by providing expert financial management and economic policy advice that promotes the public interest. We achieve this through our effective management of the Western Australian public sector finances and formulation of the annual State Budget, development of economic and revenue forecasts and monitoring of the State’s economy and major revenue bases. We are currently looking to fill different vacancies at Level 5, within the Economic Policy directorate.

About the jobs

Treasury is looking to fill three Level 5 positions in the Economic Business Unit, which is responsible for the provision of economic, financial and policy advice that promotes the public interest across a wide range of activities. The positions are in the Economic Policy (1) and Economic Revenue Forecasting (2) directorates.

  • As an Economic Analyst int he economic Strategy, Engagement and Diversification team with the Economic Policy Directorate, you will contribute to the provision of evidence-based advice on strategic economic priorities, including the State Government's diversification agenda, and collaborate across government on driving changes in economic policy.
  • As an economic Analyst in the Economic Revenue and Forecasting Directorate, you will apply your skills to identifying lead indicators, monitoring economic conditions. and forecasting economic and/or revenue aggregates for the annual budget and mid-year review processes. You will also prepare presentations and conduct research on the economy, to inform Treasury Executive and Government.

In all roles you will also provide support for Treasury's economic engagement program, including arranging and attending external meetings and preparing relevant research and briefing materials, to ensure that Treasury has a strong understanding of the Western Australian economy and economic policy priorities.

Treasury experience is highly valued in the wider public sector, opening up opportunities in other State Government agencies.

About you

For these roles, you should have demonstrated experience in an economic or policy work environment with the ability to prepare evidence-based advice on economic and policy issues. For the analyst role in the Economic Revenue and Forecasting directorate, you should also have experience in the analysis and evaluation of quantitative and qualitative data.

Your work will be varied – using your research, conceptual, and analytical skills you will quickly understand economic issues and then prepare targeted, practical and distilled analysis and advice to inform and enable Government decision-making. Treasury employees have a well-grounded understanding and awareness of current events, and can anticipate, analyse, and strategically respond to emerging issues, exploring a range of possibilities to resolve complex problems.
In communicating your advice you will use well-developed written communication skills, and other presentation methods, to tailor your message to your key audience.

You will enjoy working collaboratively across Treasury, and across the public sector, to develop solutions. This can include the creation of strategies to address cross-sector and long-term issues.

You should want to challenge yourself and look for new and creative ways of doing things, to deliver better outcomes for the State.

Appointment is based on the applicant’s capacity to undertake the role at the level required and commensurate with Treasury’s Capability Framework, and this will be assessed throughout the recruitment process.
