Position

We are looking for intellectually curious team players with strong quantitative skills to join our tightly knit, ambitious, and growing Sydney office.

Associates work as part of a team on challenging and high-profile projects in a collegial and academically-oriented work environment. Brattle is large enough to be sought after to answer complex economic, regulatory, and financial questions for clients around the world. We are also small enough to provide our Associates with a variety of experiences and individualized development from our experts. Associates are central members of each project team. They regularly collaborate with senior consulting staff and leading industry experts to analyse complex matters such as asset valuation, energy market design, transfer pricing and tax controversies, securities litigation, and infrastructure access disputes.

Associates are responsible for framing research approaches, managing project teams, and developing client relationships while building individual expertise. As they gain valuable hands-on project experience, Associates also become more involved in marketing and business development efforts. The Brattle Group commits to continuous training and development for consultants and has a strong track record of developing Associates into Principals who often act as testifying experts.

Ideal Candidates Will Possess:

  • PhD in Finance with a strong foundation in empirical analysis
  • Strong analytic and quantitative skills (including proficiency with analytical/statistical software such as STATA, R, and Excel), along with practical problem solving abilities
  • Work experience before or after post-graduate study in a related work environment (government, regulatory agency or consulting) is valued
  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Demonstrated record of outstanding academic and/or practical accomplishment
  • Desire to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communications
  • Strong relationship building skills

Our Research Analysts (RAs) are involved in diverse, challenging assignments within a stimulating, collegial work environment. You’ll work side by side with internationally recognised experts in financial economics, corporate finance, energy, competition, and regulatory economics. You’ll have the opportunity to support our Principals and Academic Advisors as they serve as expert witnesses before courts and arbitration panels on behalf of some of the world’s largest and most successful law firms and corporations, in addition to numerous public and government agencies across the globe.

As an RA, you’ll participate in project teams with senior consulting staff. The RA role includes analysis, modeling, and research functions on client projects. Major focus areas for new RAs can be financial and operational modeling, industry analyses, and literature review.

A typical day for an RA includes:

  • Combining economic theory and industry knowledge to solve real problems
  • Diving into data, using statistical analyses to extract information from messy data
  • Constructing models from a blend of theoretical concepts to answer complex questions
  • Reviewing literature and industry trends to understand the debate around key developments
  • An ideal Research Analyst candidate has an honours degree or an excellent academic record (Distinction on average) in economics, finance, or other quantitative subjects. They work seamlessly in teams, have exceptional analytical skills (preferably data analysis experience using software such as R or Stata), a passion for creative problem-solving, and the ability to communicate complex concepts effectively. Most importantly, Brattle RAs are looking to continuously learn and take ownership of their work.

We are currently accepting applications for RAs who can join our Sydney office Graduate Program beginning January 2023.
