CEPA is seeking to fill up to two positions in our growing Sydney office.

This position is targeted at candidates with 5+ years’ experience. We are also seeking to fill a junior position with the description provided in a separate advert.

CEPA is an internationally respected economic and financial advisory firm that makes a meaningful contribution to regulation and public policy development across the energy, water and other major infrastructure sectors. CEPA is headquartered in London and our Sydney office was established in 2015, building on our long-standing practice in Australia, New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific region.

We provide robust, evidence-based public policy advice to clients that include sector regulators, governments, major investors, multilateral development banks, companies and consumer groups. Our Sydney practice offers services across the following areas:

  • Economic regulation and competition.
  • Public policy development, review and evaluation.
  • Strategy and finance, including transaction advisory.

What to expect?

As a senior member of CEPA staff you will:

  • Lead projects with significant revenue streams including structuring the work, managing client relationships, supervising junior staff and ensuring delivery of quality outputs.
  • Take a lead role in sourcing and winning new work including identifying new opportunities and developing proposals that are ‘client ready’.
  • Contribute to the running and development of CEPA as a business e.g. in procurement, training, marketing and knowledge management.
  • Take the initiative in managing and growing the business demonstrating energy, commitment and enthusiasm.

Most of your day-to-day work will be conducted in our Sydney office, however you may be required, at times, to travel and work at clients’ offices (in Australia and internationally, when such travel resumes).

What skills and experience are we looking for?

CEPA Australia continues to grow and we are seeking a candidate that would support this momentum. We consider a potential candidate could fill one of two broad roles. The first would be a candidate that can support CEPA Sydney’s core areas of work focused on economic policy, regulation and transaction advisory in the core infrastructure sectors of electricity, gas, water, transport and communications. Our main clients in this space are government agencies, regulators, regulated companies and investors. The second would be a candidate that can support CEPA’s Sydney office to expand into other areas that are complementary to the broader experience of the team. For example, this may include practice areas where CEPA’s London office has expertise such as payment system regulation or global health.

It is expected that candidates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate that they can act as a recognised expert in one or more relevant practice areas.
  • Lead mid-sized to large consulting projects depending on level of experience.
  • Contribute to business development and growth.
  • Have more than 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Excellent teamwork skills, and a positive and flexible approach.
  • An undergraduate degree in economics, finance, or a related discipline. A post-graduate degree is desired but not essential.
