Senior Analyst – Economic Analysis

This role is part of the Economic Group, which consists of the Economic Analysis and Economic Research Departments. The Group is responsible for providing economic advice to the Reserve Bank Board.  In this role, you would be responsible for the analysis of economic trends, forecasting and research relevant to the framing of monetary policy. Economic Analysis Department provides expert advice based on ongoing research & analysis, including examination of trends in relevant data & preparation of papers. Economic Research Department undertakes medium- and long-term research with a strong policy orientation.

Major responsibilities:

  • Monitor and provide written/verbal advice on domestic economic activity, prices, wages and the labour market or developments in the world economy
  • Provide expert advice to the Head of Section or Senior Economist derived from analysis & research activities
  • Analyse and interpret official statistics and relevant research publications
  • Maintain contact with relevant groups, including the Treasury, ABS, other government departments and relevant private sector organisations
  • In Research roles, the focus would be more on undertaking independent research on policy-relevant questions

Skills and Experience

  • An honours degree or equivalent in economics, finance or a related discipline
  • Proven experience in economic analysis and research
  • Familiarity with the Australian financial system
  • An ability to prepare written reports and make presentations with clarity
  • An ability to work towards tight deadlines
  • Outstanding interpersonal and strong communication skills
