First\, a snapshot analysis of the rise of this sector globally and in Australia is provided. This is then followed by various impacts of this phenomenon. Finally\, some empirical evidence using 2015 data from Tourism Research Australia and a self-designed survey are analysed for policy implications on the demand and supply of the accommodation sharing economy. Renuka Mahadevan is an Associate Professor with the School of Economics at the University of Queensland. Apart from the mainstream economics work she does\, she is also a tourism economist who uses economic models to provide empirical evidence analysis on policy orientated issues. She has published widely on grey nomads\, cruising\, and arts and culture related work on various festivals and events\, and the museum. These include the Woodford festival\, Arctic Winter Games\, Australia's Aboriginal tourism\, the History Museum in Singapore\, and the Biennale. Her current interest includes volunteers at these various places.
