Economic Society of Australia (ESA) and Women in Economics Network (WEN) members and associates warmly invite you to a lunchtime event with special guest speaker, Professor Deborah Loxton, Director of both the Centre for Women’s Health Research and the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health at the University of Newcastle. Professor Deborah Loxton, will present on the following topic: Violence Against Women in Australia.
Prof. Loxton will present an overview of prevalence for domestic and sexual violence, and adversity, including abuse, experienced in childhood and the health outcomes of these experiences. She will discuss factors that appear to assist in recovery from experiences of violence. The presentation will follow with a Q/A from audience.
About the speaker
Prof Deb Loxton is Director of both the Centre for Women’s Health Research and the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health at the University of Newcastle. She has been researching different areas of women’s health for over two decades, with a particular focus on the health impacts of violence over the life course. She has published over 200 papers, and her research has informed national and local policies on women’s health and violence against women. She is a passionate advocate for the right of all women to live a life free of violence.
