The Women in Economics Network (WEN) invite you to our first face-to-face event in 12 months – a lunchtime seminar with special guest speaker, Barbara Pocock, Emeritus Professor at the University of South Australia. Professor Pocock will discuss the following topic: What has COVID-19 done to work: what’s changed, what’s remained the same and what lessons can be learned for our future?

About the Speaker

Barbara was initially trained as an economist and has been involved in policy, research and advocacy about working life for over thirty-five years. She has worked in universities, shearing sheds, the Reserve Bank, farming, unions, government, advising politicians and as a career. She has served on the Economic Development Board of South Australia (2012-2016), The Australia Institute (2004-), The Festival of Ideas, the Australian Institute of Family Studies, and the Australian Association of Industrial Relation Academics of Australia and New Zealand. Barbara established and was Director of the Centre for Work + Life, at the University of South Australia between 2006-2014. Barbara is the lead Senate Candidate for the SA Greens in the 2021/22 federal election, reflecting her concern for action on climate change, inequality and justice. Barbara was made a member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2010 for services to industrial relations research and for advocacy of social justice.

She is the author of many articles and books, including The Labour Market Ate My Babies, The Work/Life Collision and Time Bomb: Work, Rest and Play in Australia Today.

COVID-19

This event will be run in accordance with the most current COVID-19 guidelines issued by SA Health. Please do not attend this event if you have any cold or flu-like symptoms; have travelled to any destinations designated by SA Health within the last 14 days; or have had exposure to a confirmed or suspected positive case of COVID-19. You will be required to check-in on arrival.

Venue: The Meeting Hall at Adelaide Town Hall (enter via Pirie St or Flinders St)

Cost: No cost for WEN members, $15 for non-members

If you can no longer attend after registering, please email wen@esasa.org.au to cancel/refund your attendance. This will allow us to ensure our limited capacity is met on the day.

A light lunch will be served on arrival. Both women and men are welcome to attend the event. Registrations are strictly limited so please book in early to avoid disappointment.
