About the Speakers
Kate Ryan is the head of Energy Policy WA, Western Australia’s energy policy agency.
Kate leads the team responsible for supporting the delivery of the Western Australian Government’s Energy Transformation Strategy – the major work program to deliver cleaner, more affordable and more reliable electricity to Western Australian consumers. This includes the development and implementation of a Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Roadmap for Western Australia to guide changes to policies, regulations, technical requirements and customer protections to support the integration of DER over the short, medium and longer term.
Kate has extensive experience across the energy sector in policy, reform, regulation and market design. She has held senior roles with the Queensland and Western Australian Governments and the former Independent Market Operator in Western Australia, and has also managed key reform projects in the Queensland and Western Australian energy sectors.
Samantha Tough is currently Chair of Horizon Power, Director Clean Energy Finance Corporation, Chair National Energy Selection Panel, Director Saracen Mineral Holdings Ltd. She also works with the University of Western Australia as Pro Vice Chancellor Industry Engagement. Samantha has worked in a variety of industry sectors throughout her career including energy, resources, engineering, infrastructure and agriculture. In the energy sector, previous roles include General Manager North West Shelf Woodside Energy Ltd, Director Synergy and Director Pilbara Power Project.
Jamie Henderson has a degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Queensland. After completing his degree, he worked for the Western Australian Government in a variety of roles for over 20 years. This included roles as an economist, policy advisor and change manager based in Western Australia and as a trade and investment Manager for the Western Australian Government based in London. Following this time, Jamie was appointed Chief of Staff to a Minister in the Western Australian Government for 6 years working in a diverse range of portfolios including regional development, training, water policy and land tenure policy. Following this role, Jamie worked as a private consultant providing government relations advice to companies in the mining, oil and gas and property sector before joining his current role at Shell.
Jamie joined Shell Australia in December 2018 as a Government relations advisor supporting Shell Australia’s activities in both Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
