Mala Raghavan is a Lecturer in Economics at the Tasmanian School of Business and Economics, University of Tasmania; a Visiting Research Fellow at Bank Negara Malaysia; a Research Associate of CAMA, ANU; a Member of the Athena SWAN Charter; National Committee Member and Tasmanian Representative of Women in Economics Network (WEN); Committee Member of the Economic Society of Australia (Tasmanian Branch); an associate with the Asia Institute of Tasmania; Honorary Jane Fellow of Jane Franklin Hall, Tasmania.
Mala was invited as the economic commentator to the Budget Breakfast hosted by KPMG Launceston, following the release of the Budget in May 2015 and 2016; a panel discussant in the Forum: “Gender Equality and Economic Growth in Asia” organised the Asia Institute of Tasmania.
Mala's research interests are in the areas of Macroeconomic Policies, Monetary Economics, International Economics and Asian Economies. Mala is involved in numerous projects associated with her work on the macroeconomic effects of various international and domestic shocks on small open economies with focus on Asia and Australia.
Mala has more than 25 years of teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at various universities across two continents – Australia and Asia (Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong). She joined University of Tasmania in July 2011. Prior to that she held academic positions at Monash University and RMIT University.
